What are the different types of heaters available at LOU-TEC?

Different types of heaters available at LOU-TEC

When temperatures drop, heating becomes essential on job sites, in buildings under construction, and in industrial spaces. At LOU-TEC, we offer a complete range of heating solutions tailored to every need and work environment. To choose the right equipment, it’s important to understand the different types of heaters available.

1.Radiant (Infrared) Heating

Radiant units, whether electric or fuel-powered, produce heat without a fan. They warm surfaces and people directly rather than the surrounding air. Compact and energy-efficient, they are ideal for targeted heating zones or as supplemental heaters in specific areas.

Good to know:

  • Perfect for localized comfort (e.g., individual workstations).
  • Must never be installed near flammable materials.
  • Combustion models require proper ventilation.
  • Should not be left unattended.

2. Open-Flame Heating

Open-flame units — often called “heat cannons” — produce a strong, visible flame. They generate intense raw heat, making them ideal for large outdoor job sites or winter concrete pours.

Key features:

  • Intense heat with limited temperature control.
  • Loud, powerful, and not designed for worker comfort.
  • Recommended for unfinished or open-walled sites.
  • Fire hazard warning: these units must be handled with extreme care.

3. Direct-Fired Heating

Highly popular on residential, commercial, and agricultural job sites, direct-fired heaters (such as L.B. White models) provide an excellent balance between power and efficiency. They run on propane or natural gas and can be used alone or connected to ducts for even heat distribution.

Key features:

  • Protected flame (but not fully isolated).
  • Rapid heat output.
  • Safe operation with proper ventilation.
  • Suitable for semi-enclosed or temporary job sites.

4. Indirect-Fired Heating

Indirect-fired units are ideal for long-term heating, especially for keeping entire buildings warm throughout the cold season. They operate on fuel oil, propane, or natural gas. The flame is completely contained within an isolated combustion chamber, and harmful exhaust gases are safely vented through a chimney.

Key features:

  • Can be installed indoors or outdoors.
  • Safe heat distribution through ducting.
  • Excellent solution for large spaces.
  • Some LOU-TEC units can produce up to 1,500,000 BTU!

LOU-TEC experts can help you choose the most efficient and safest heater for your needs,  whether it’s for a small workstation, a large-scale job site, or a temporarily unheated warehouse.
